Nine Miles Out
3 minRock
Slow burn. 246 moves a minute, peaking at 400 units a second.
A storm walks in across the yard while she counts it down. Everything holds through the power cut, then it hits all at once.
Lyrics
Intro
Sky went green at six o'clock, the screen door starts to bang
Wait... wait... hold...
Storm is nine miles out and coming.
Verse One
Porch lamp swinging on the wire, my glass is sweating through
Tap... tap... tap... tap... like the rain across the roof
Lightning. One. Two. Three. Four. Thunder in the yard
Squeeze... hold... squeeze... hold... hold it, hold it long
Verse Two
Eight miles. Seven miles. The trees are turning white
Pat, pat, pat, pat, the rain is on the tin
Grip... tighter... tighter... hold... let the whole thing in
Flick... flick... flick... flick... like a wire coming loose
Half Time
Power's out. The whole street's gone.
Still... still... nothing moving but the rain.
Hold... hold... wait for it...
Wait for it...
Peak
It hits. Stroke, stroke, stroke, stroke, the window's full of white
All the way up, all the way down, stroke, stroke, stroke, stroke
Harder, faster, stroke, stroke, stroke, stroke, the house is coming loose
Stroke, stroke, stroke, stroke... hold... release...
After
Rain going sideways, then it's only rain again
Slow... slower... easing... glide... glide...
Sink... lower... rest...
Storm is nine miles gone the other way.
Outro
Porch lamp comes back on, the dog comes off the step
Hold... still... stop.
Pour me one more. It is not even midnight yet.
